Beginning to think seriously about what comes next. After a sting of SAABs the next car to be added to the garage will undoubtedly be something other than a SAAB. Also, unfortunately the next car looks like it may end up being an automatic. I have never owned anything but manuals and have serious misgivings about that change but I have accepted that it is a likelihood at this time.
What is a good choice for a SAAB driver? Something that has reasonable size, handles well, and preferably has a degree of versatility. Good for the long haul but also competent on twisty county roads and other two lane highways.
Current car is a 9-5 Sport/Aero 5 speed manual. I would not rule out a newer used car but my thinking is that it will be new. I really do not want to spend more than ~ 40K at the top end and the less the better. That rules out a number of cars that might otherwise be of interest.
I have not really been out looking or done research but one of the cars that I intend to put on the consideration list is the VW Arteon. Hatchback that seems to hit the desired size class and basic characteristics. Sort of surprised that a search turned up no comments on it on the boards here. A reasonable choice? Any one driven one? Impression of handling and driving experience? Visibility? ...
What else should an old SAABer be considering when looking for a new car?
