I spent a few days in a discoverey II a few years back & was less then impressed (like I am with ALL SUV's). It was quite cramped & it's road manners weren't very good. However, Range Rover is suppose to bring their smaller ute to the states which is suppose to be their #1 seller in europe. I beleive it's next year sometime when it arrives & is about $32K.
I just have a very difficult time understanding why people buy these things (be it from Jap/us/etc). They have such poor road manners & fuel economy they just seem worthless. A rescent 60 minute/dateline (or one of those talk shows) discussed how poor many of them were carrying people. They showed that many of the utes couldn't even carry 1000 lbs of stuff. Take a 200 lb driver, pass & 2 people in the back & you are over the limit of a nissan QX4 which is only 798 lbs. Then people want to load it up with all kind ofluggage for trips & not only are the over their maximum vehicles weight, but the center of gravity is way up there as well. Some utes are better then other for their load carrying abilities but it's something you might want to consider.
I think wagons are where people should be spending their money instead. The 9-5 AERO or Audi allroad are excellent vehicles which are fun on those country roads, be it dirt or pavement :o)
