...the instability. The Mac OS has never been able to manage system memory properly so if you want to avoid crashes you have to restart A LOT. This can really slow down a project. One thing using Macs has taught me is to save your work all the time. I've never had stability issues under NT/Win2k.
Anyone know what the big deal about the G4 is supposed to be? Supercomputer? I think not. I had to work with several for a couple of months and couldn't believe the slugishness. I just felt so relieved when I got back on the dual processor Dells.
The whole idea that Macs are better for certain things (esp graphics) is now quite false. The difference now is personal preference and tradition. That's why communication designers still use Macs most of the time; they have been since the advent of computer graphics. The programs are all equivalent, and the quality is the same. File formats are similar, but Mac's binary file system can cause compatibility issues, especially when using UNIX as an intermediary. Mac is very, very picky about file identification because they're encoded directly into the file rather than tacked on to the filename.
Man, that was a pointless rant...
