I'll be going through this soon myself. Although I do not want the AWD (you know its 90% FWD and 10% RWD before the sensors decide for you), I'm leaning towards the 2.4T or the T-5, however, I too will look at the 9-5.
Plenty of pep but is the 0-60 time really that important...with a child? The XC is 3700+ pounds....its Volvo's heaviest car by a minimum of 100 pounds.
Although there are 3 lap/shoulder belts in the rear, some of those child seats are bulky and you may not be able to accommodate all 3.
No rebates at this time and you will pay for scheduled maintenance unlike Saab right now.
Reliability does not equal the 9-5's now, however, I'm not going to let that sway me as I have owned Volvos for 20+ years and have had nothing more than typical maintenance, albiet that can be expensive anyway.
