Hm.. Is your car stick? I bet the auto sucks down 2 mpg.
Also, i was told the SE package Z rated tires on our car could be sucking down a MPG by themselves.
Keep in mind that for us, highway speeds are 75+.. I have driven both our bmw and saab from santa fe to albuquerque ( 2000 foot descent in 50 miles. hilly ) and was VERY light on the throttle. I really milked the mpg. The saab got 37mpg when i did this, and the bmw got 40 even.. So if my speculation about the auto & tires is correct, these cars get essentially the same mpg in these "milking" sutuations. Interestingly, the saab revs more slowly at these speeds.
There is surely a lot of dependance of the driver to extract the best fuel economy.
