I have an 88 900TC that has an interesting problem. To me, it's the anti-safety feature and I don't understand it. The dashboard lights stay on ALL THE TIME regardless of headlight switch position. My mom had a 1984 900T, and it didn't have this "feature." I don't know how many years had this, but I think it's pretty dumb. The first few times I drove the car at night - on well lit city streets - I didn't turn my headlights on because I had dash lights. Granted, on a dark, deserted road, you'd realize pretty quickly that your lights aren't on, but if you're a city driver, you can get in trouble pretty fast. I thought people were flashing their high beams at me because I had a cool car. Boy is my face red.
