Car manufacturer's are being blamed for excess depreciation, but it has 100% to do with the market place. Things have tightened up; this has forced the manufacturers to give great deals on new cars. Trade values have plummeted. For an example, I can take a trade-in today, and be $1000 upsidedown in it a week later. Dealers haven't been able to bid cars cheap enough, therefore there are a lot of upset owners out there because the dealers are buying the cars for trmendously less than the various market analysis books show values to be. NADA is so far off right now that I don't even bother looking at the book. Marketplace retail prices currently match NADA's Trade-In value. It breaks my heart to tell a customer that his car is worth thousands less than NADA Loan Value, especially when he originally bought the trade-in vehicle from me.
Cheers,
Brian.
