and say "Go for it". My STi has been a great daily driver. Granted, I'm youngish (23), but I find the ride slightly less jarring than my 9-3 SE convertible (it's a different kind of harshness - I feel more bumps, but they are over with quickly, while the convertible tended to shake long afterwards. I didn't realize how bad it was until I drove the STi).
I have several friends in the 25-35 age group with STis and Evos, and all are their daily drivers. The STi has a very large trunk, adequate back seat, and is pretty darn practical for the most part.
It's also incredibly fun to drive. The Evo is a bit twitchier - more of an autocross car with very tight steering and unforgiving suspension - the STi is much more tolerable on the street, particularly with its meatier torque band.
What area are you in?
