Hey remember my one venture back to US domestic makers was a Ford - 1991 SHO, it was a good car in some aspects - in particular the yamaha designed top end of the engine, the interior and paint job were nice and it had a built with pride in Georgia sticker on it. So now to what wasn't so nice - the 12month/12k miles warranty which upon expiry or shortly thereafter some of the warts started to surface - like the shift throw rod becoming disconnected - threads had been stripped and some sort of adhesive put in so it held up temporarily, AC leaked out because likewise high pressure line connector bolts were cross threaded, a rear caliber locked up, rear shocks leaked, and sway bar broke. Fuel pump failed at 40k miles and so on. Back then Ford's slogan was "quality is job 1 " but I wasn't convinced.
And of course the clutch went out at 80k - this was a known issue with the SHO.
I bought this car in Pittsburgh and also had my Saab 1986 9000T, the SHO spent 3 yrs in Pittsburgh and when I moved back to Colorado and had to work on both cars - any bolts exposed to the elements would loosen on the Saab but on the Ford would routinely just snap off.

I'm just still not of fan of what comes out of Detroit - except for maybe the new Jeep Cherokee and some of the high performance Cadillac stuff.

As this was originally a mustang thread here is a bit of a "cloak and diss" article about the Mustang II. I found some humor in it.
