I am sure they use the stuff in there because like you stated a lie would be very costly :)
I would think that if the oils are kept in their proper temp operating area it will not break down no matter what the HP is. Thus some oils seem to require a big oil cooler vs other fluids can take more heat thus they can deal with the boost.
Kinda like in C900's with the crappy trannies we get stuck with. MTL is a awesome fluid however many feel that if the car is driven during VERY hot months with hi power &/or driven at a racetrack the fluid isn't going to work. Thus something thicker like MT-90 should be used. However, I would bet a trans oil cooler would solve the problem & let MTL work w/o breaking down :)
