I'm not clear why this is a problem unless something is different on your engine from my '69 V4 in model 95 wagon. I just went and checked, a plain 14mm socket with a short extension (not over 2") lets a ratchet swing easily aft of the exhaust pipe; alternately my 14mm 12 point offset box wrench gets right in there. Offset wrenches have different offset distances, mine is fairly high, about 1", and a lower offset might not make it. Somebody may have put an odd-size nut on yours that could make it harder? Tricks like using an open-end wrench at an angle are sometimes necessary but also a good way to round corners on nuts and make matters worse; and not tightening starter fasteners securely is an invitation to trouble. 9/16" is just a hair bigger than 14mm (.5625" vs .551181" to be exact) so a 9/16" wrench will usually work fine on a 14mm fastener though the fit is a bit sloppy, if tool and fastener are not badly worn. I think 14mm is the correct size for that nut.
