With low profile EMPI filter modified to be square with the hood I had about 1/8" clearance at the leading edge of the buldge on my 68. This worked untill summer hit here in PHX and the fuel started to boil. Low profile mounts alowed for a 1/4" heat spacer and cured the problem and gave me even more clearance. If you go with the low mounts watch for contact at the starter, bellhousing fuel lines and batery cable.
