Hi Alex. Likewise my Haynes shows the cam coming out the front. It is about 20 years since I put my engine together, so forgive my poor memory. "Journals" simply means the round parts of the camshaft where it rotates in the bearings (shells) installed in the block. Likewise the crankshaft has main bearing journals and rod bearing journals. Where are you, & what native language? Your English is excellent.
On many engines the lifters can be removed with heads in place, and again I plead that it is too long since I have done this to remember correctly so I expect you are right. However, if the engine is out, it is only slight extra effort and expense to pull the heads and do everything right. And if you are replacing the cam you should replace the lifters too. And if your engine is stock it probably does not have hardened valve seats and you will want to have your machine shop install these to avoid future problems if you are using unleaded gasoline.
I am not a high-performance enthusiast and there is plenty I don't know in that arena. In particular I am unclear about lightening the flywheel. It will not improve engine horsepower. It will allow the engine to accelerate to high RPM in less time. I think it is relevant in certain types of racing and probably irrelevant for any street vehicle. I would not devote resources to that modification without a clear purpose that would be served by lightening the flywheel.
Seeing that you have already done the easy external modifications, yes, the camshaft is probably next. I do not know what is a 7.2 or 7.9 cam. I think the book I mentioned would give you good information, if it interests you, call me USA 530-899-1123 and I can have it sent.
