Weight distribution and ReAxe..... The Aero has far less of it's weight on the nose, all aluminum engine set back in the chassis, turbo on the back, aluminum hood and aluminum suspension bits.
All 9-3SS have the passive rear wheel steering that toes out the outside rear wheel under cornering that reduces the feeling of understeer dramatically. This is called ReAxe.
The entirely multi-link rear suspension, and the fact that all the suspension bits as well as the brake calipers are aluminum, dramatically alters the ride charisteristics. The difference in unsprung weight and the compliance of the fully indepedent rear suspension in the 9-3SS means the ride handling comprimise is vastly improved and the limits are much higher too. A 9-3 Aero with the lower sport chassis and 17's rides better than any 99-2002 9-3 anything and a Viggen is just plain stiff, particularly in the compliance department over the small stuff.
Viggens also put the "T" in torque steer. The new 9-3SS has virtually no torque steer, but some say the steering is slightly overboosted. I would also guess that if all that stuff is lighter and the car weighs the same, the body/chassis must be heavier and stiffer also improving the ride and handling.
