A lease is just as easy to break as a purchase. A lease has a payoff just like a finance contract. Even with penalties the short term payoff on a lease is less than a purchase with the same cash in as a lease doesn't have sales tax.

Furthermore leases can be assumed, finance contracts cannot.

Just the opposite is true, it's easier to get out of a lease than a purchase contract. What's never easy is breaking a lease or a finance contract where there wasn't a major amount of cash down, which is more common with the lease.
