Bryan,
Test drove the Yoko tires on the Civic and overall was very impressed with the road feel, low noise etc of the tire, however, as installed, the steering wheel would start to shake above 60 mph every now and then (I'm thinking under very specific initiating conditions a vibration would start and then cascade a bit until is was very noticeable..sometimes only under deceleration w/o braking but not always). The behavior generally matches descriptions of out of balance tires. Shop tried all kinds of things to remedy (rebalance, reinstall, check rims, check ball joints) but could not resolve the problem (but still working on it). Car is in good mechanical shape. This appears to be a failure to properly balance the tire for the road as the car did not shake in this manner prior to the install, balance, and alignment (perhaps the balancing equipment is not precise). Of course, perhaps there is a man or design defect w/ the tire that the shop would not be capable of resolving? Checking the web, it appears that this problem is not rare and appears to be a common source of complaint/frustration among tire buyers. At this point I can't really blame the tire cause it could be the shop or balancing equipment but next time around I will certainly have to check out the shop beforehand (didn't think this would be an issue..never had such a problem before).
