Status of indy mechanics w/ corporate changes

Was thinking about picking up a 9-3. Considering 2006 up to new. Part of the reason for considering the 9-3, even with Saab's possible demise by end of December, has been the availability of some incredible deals in Chicago area (dealer network being trimmed from 9 to 3 I believe). Always leaning toward servicing via indy mechanics. The indys are closer to my work, and I got a better vibe when I went to meet them face to face. However from reading this board it seems not all indys are able to work on latest 9-3s due to diagnostic tools.
So here is my question. Assuming an indy mechanic does have computer tools to work on latest 9-3s, would a closing down of Saab at year-end affect in any way the indy's ability to continuing service of 9-3 (due to security codes, etc..). The answer to this question really determines whether one could buy a Saab going forward. Whether Saab survives or not, indys are going to place a greater role in servicing as dealers fall by wayside. Hence understanding their capabilities is vital in making a purchase decision. Thanks for your thoughts.
