Fortunately most of the electricity generated in Sweden is from nuclear and hydro so it is dependable and clean. Here in the US only about 20% is nuclear with the vast majority of the rest fossil-fuel based.
Ontario is about 60% nuclear, about 25% hydro, and they try to make up the difference with solar and wind. If solar and wind don't play (which happens daily to one degree or another) then they spin up natural gas fired plants to cover the deficit. Ontario today is pretty close to carbon-free baseload generation.

When you get to that point, your plug-in electrics are really clean.
