Steering Wheel Malfunction = ISM failure? 2007 SAAB 9-3
Posted by Gabby Gwen [Email] (more from Gabby Gwen) on Sat, 19 Dec 2020 21:16:03
I'm new here, and definitely new to getting my hands dirty in my car, so point me in the right direction if I'm reposting something.
I recently got a "steering wheel malfunction" on my SAAB 2007 9-3 6V manual with about 100k miles on it. This occurred after about a month of battery issues (my car would be fine one day, and then the next day the battery would be drained). I googled the error and it seems the ISM maybe be the problem. I took it out and cleaned the connection points, reinstalled it, and now am getting a 'key issue, contact service provider' error message.
Does anyone know if I am on the right track thinking this would be the ISM? Any suggestions on where to find a replacement ISM that comes with a new key? I am thinking if I get a new ISM that my key won't be recognized but I was hoping that maybe getting a new key with the ISM would allow me to skip the step of needing to get my key reprogramed.
I live in Falmouth, MA, if anyone knows anything in the area.
Thanks for the help!
