Alert me when someone posts in this thread:

Hello,
There are basically 3 items that can cause that message. The ISM (ignition switch module), CIM (column integrated module), or the SCL (steering column lock). I am guessing you were getting the message even though the steering wheel itself was not locked. The fact that the message changed after messing with the ISM would make one think the ISM atleast needs replaced. You only need the ISM itself and can reused your keys. YOu can either get a used one but it may need cleaned or a new one, but the last time I got a new one they only were selling the insides and you had to reuse the case of your currect ISM. So you could start there and see if it works. If it doesn't you will have to get it diagnosed.
The only way to know the exact problem is with a Tech 2 with SAAB software. You can check the buddy registry on this site and see if someone near you has a tech 2 and is willing to help or you will need to find a shop with a tech 2.
If the problem is in the CIM you will need a CIM, keys and A tech 2,and access to TIS (Saabs access to some features on the Tech2)
The keys are "married" to the CIM so if you end up needing a CIM you would need one plus keys. A good junk yard can sell you a CIM with married keys or you can buy a new CIM and keys. Do not buy just a CIM from a junkyard it will not work. Good Luck, Bernie
