I've had this happen on my 2003 9-3 and my 2008 Aero. On the '03, my indy replaced the pump and sender with and aftermarket unit about 5 years ago, and the sender failed after 3 years. In retrospect, I would have replaced only replaced the sender, as the pump rarely fails.
You didn't say what model car you have, but from you picture it looks like a 2008+. From my experience with my '08 Aero, I had an evap code check engine light pop up after replacing the pump and sender with a "quality" aftermarket part :( An ex-SAAB tech told me some aftermarket pumps are not welcome in a SAAB system. Thinking it was a faulty installation, the shop dropped the tank to recheck fit and connections. The only fix was to buy a used SAAB pump and a new sender (the shop tossed the old, but still good pump so I had to get a used one as OEM ones were not available at that time.
I would just replace the sender with OEM or GM part.
