I finally got that stubborn screw in, only to determine that the hissing sound continued.

I also resealed the exterior cabin filter intake housing first with the Saab rubber moulding from Orio before even doing this job. Definitely an upgrade from the thing gasket that was placed originally.

Also a good idea to check the two drain bungs (one directly below cabin filter) as they frequently clog up with debris. There is a little flap at the bottom of the bung that is supposed to open freely to drain water away.

It turns out the housing on my replacement OE blower motor from Valeo is slightly misshapen from the original.

In the end, I used two cable ties to apply upward pressure from the plastic tangs/clips on the replacement blower motor housing up to the flat metal glove box support piece where the center glove box screw goes. Hissing gone.

Also - a note to anyone doing this - try the fan speeds with the doors CLOSED. Hissing only occurred when all doors and windows were closed which is why I didn't notice it after first doing this job. Also take the floor mat out if you haven't, you never every bit of room/clearance for that forward most screw.
