I thought I was the only one crazy enough to drive an hour for car service – I’m in Farmington and was heading down to Saab of Westport for all service. Then my work schedule got completely crazy and I was forced to find something local and refused to use Hoffman Saab. Luckily I discovered a terrific indy in Collinsville (Collinsville Motorcars).
Back in 2002, when I first bought my convertible, it had some irritating kinks to work out -- crazy alarm system, windows sensor was bad, unlatchable seat belt, etc. The selling dealer, Hoffman Saab was unable to fix most problems after repeated visits, never delivered the car on time, and frankly, the only thing their service advisors were good at was giving you attitude.
The search for a new dealer was on...and I tried a bunch. The other dealer in central CT, Mitchell Saab, wouldn't provide a loaner unless you bought the car from them, which is understandable. Their service was decent, but the shuttle service to and from work was inconvenient, as I work most of the year too far away to use it.
I went to school in Westchester Cty, NY and used Saab of Westchester in Briarcliff Manor. Again, no complaints with the repairs, but what a hassle to get a loaner car.
I, like you, was weary of using a Fairfield Cty dealer, as I assumed costs would be higher. They were not -- in fact, my first oil change was $10 cheaper than at Hoffman Saab. But the best part was the techs actually know what they're doing: he noticed the car had rusty wheel lugs, a creaky in the convertible top, and needed a software update. (Granted, these items were not rocket science, but I've never had a dealership tell me my car needed any sort of work except for items they were planning on charging me for). The best part -- all items were replaced before I even picked the car up at 5 pm.
Saab of Westport truly sets the standard other Saab dealers should be held to -- I frequently read rants about poor customer service and incompetent service departments and totally sympathize. That is exactly how I felt before finding a dealership that understands without a customer they won't be in business.
Good luck to you picking a car -- at least finding a shop for work won't be so hard...
