Well it had to happen sooner or later. Pickup truck backed into the front of my 4 1/2 month old Aero Wagon Friday night. Very low speed as it happened in the parking lot of a restaurant but the center and one of the side "fake chrome" pieces are cracked. Bumper around the grille also bent. Got 2 estimates and they said they have to replace the entire bumper -- $1,159. Ouch!
Other driver wants to settle this privately and I want to be a good guy and cut him a break, but my instinct is that he'll flake out. Anyone ever had any success with letting other drivers pay for damage outside of insurance? Any advice in doing this? Guess I'll have to make sure he pays up front in cash if he follows through. Living in the big city (L.A.) however, I've just learned not to trust anyone. Resisting the urge right now to just go straight to my insurance company.
