In a perfect world, yes, a car that has not had to deal with sand and salt will probably be in better condition underneath than one that has. But for the average car owner who has a well maintained car, the exposure will be insignificant in the long run. Let's face it, it isn't a perfect world. I grew up in Detroit, built on a salt mine, where every car rusted through well before its useful life was over. Cars are built better now than they were back then. I'll let my mechanic worry about it, because a little salt won't have any major affect on the useful life of my Saab. As long as the body is in good condition, the guts can be replaced if needed.
