Unless you like the thing to fall apart. I bought mine certified used with only 48K miles. Consumer Reports had it as a recommended buy with good grades on pretty much everything. Now the 99, 9-5 is listed as one to avoid. Bummer for me. I'm back on the board to look for the reason my auto shift linkage is screwed up and the car won't go into Park. I have to start it in neutral and the plastic piece that covers the hole in the shifter tunnel appears broken and I look right down into the mechanism. The tranny is still running very well, no slipping or anything like that. I've had most of the problems you read here regarding 99, 9-5s. It has a wobble the dealer never fixed, it idles like a four cylinder diesel using only three, the HVAC system cratered, the engine and tranny mounts broke, misc interior pieces cracking, the carpet on the passenger side will never stay in place despite the fact that it has only been ridden in maybe five times in the last two years, the SID will randomly go from having all its pixels to less than half, third brake light cover simply fell off, the paint cracks above the C-pillar, and on and on and on. The more expensive repairs were still under warranty but the little things do add up to a lot of frustration. From what I've been reading, people have more luck with the 2002 and up vehicles.
I hope you have better luck with yours but do look around, most of the problems seem to be from 1999. I just remembered, my turbo is holding up very well, no smoke at all. I've been running Mobile 1, 05-30 since I got the car.
