There is a very serious consumer programme about cars on Swedish TV which - among other things - tests car locks in new cars. For those of you who understand Swedish the test can be found on: http://www.svt.se/falun/trafikmagasinet/indexe4.htm

The essence of the results is that the SAAB 9-5 plus - funnily enough -some Volvos (could this be Swedish biased consumer propaganda...???) were the only cars that resisted the insurance companies' "professional car thief" for more than two minutes. The full list follows hereunder (note that the thief was off with the new C class Merc in half a minute...).

However, the British magazine WhatCar? - on line version: http://www.whatcar.co.uk/ (click on "special report" then "security test") - rated it last among their "executive cars". They say:

"For the third year running the Saab's points tally has fallen. This year, our testers successfully entered and drove it away. The 9-5 had not enough marked points, no secure boot and a unique-fit stereo with no removeable panel. In a repeat of last year, the spare wheel remains so secure that it could be hard to get at it in an emergency."

Granted, they test other things as well - but *our testers successfully entered and drove it away* !!!

How come the results are so different? Is the 9-5 Fort Knox on wheels or are the locks so bad that it's a waste of time locking the car?
