The car dosenot have to be locked for the anti-theft to be active. The car has two active anti theft devices. This is called the immobilizer function. It disables the fuel pump and starter every time the engine is shut off with the key. The function is shut off when the correct transponder in the key is detected when the ignition is switched on. It's detected through the antenna surounding the ignition switch. The correct "transponder code" is then sent to the TWICE control unit. If the code is correct, TWICE sends the code to the Insturment cluster (MIU) and activates the starter. The command travels from MIU to the Trionic T7 control module and is checked again, if correct T7 activates the fuel pump. The red LED on the dash should always flash if the alarm is set or not. This indicated some sort of theft deterent active, either anti theft (one flash every 3 seconds) or the imobilizer, 2 flashes every couple of seconds. Is the car easy to steel? Not unless someone has a wiring diagram and plans the attack, and i would not call that easy. The anti theft system is very good. I would not worry about the locks, if someone wants to steel(or try anyway) the car, an old fashion "brick through the window" always works. Now, if we only had that James Bond Anti theft device...............
