>>BTW a stick 9-5 SportCombi is a rare car, there's only about 10 in the whole USA right now. You'll likely have to order one or take European delivery to get what you want.
Ten seems like a miniscule number, but you've got access to the computer. My experience (Philadelphia area, about February 2003) was that there were 5-speed wagons around, but not all dealers had them, and those who did had only one. I ended up going to New York to pick one up, but that way we got the color we wanted.
You're a little better off finding a car this year since there's only one trim line--in 2003 most of the stick wagons were Aeros. If you wanted something else, you'd have to look farther.
>>Make sure you give the paddle shift 5 speed auto a workout before you reject it. The auto in a 9-5 makes many die hard stick lovers convert.
Not these two. We test-drove one (that GM all-day test-drive promo a few years ago) before buying Tomtar, and I found myself fumbling for the paddles, while a shift knob is a big and easy-to-hit target while you're trying to pay attention to the road and dealing with small children in back. Laura has small hands, and she found the paddles an uncomfortable reach. In my ideal world, shift paddles would be adjustable in and out and back and forth.
Maybe with a little more time we'd get used to it, but I tend to like the rhythm of a stick.
