These are real buggers and are easily installed wrong. There are two small ears on the edge of the caliper housing and the spring clip MUST be behind these ears. If installed in front of these ears the brakes will be mushy and unsafe.
The last time I installed front pads (my third time!) I discovered the easiest method yet to get these installed corectly. Insert the spring clip fully in the lower hole. Insert the clip 1/2 way in the upper hole. I used 10-inch Channel-lock pliers to push the clip behind the two small ears, then gently tapped the top end of the clip fully in the hole with a small ball-peen hammer (or side of pliers).
This worked much easier than my previous method of inserting one end of the clip into a mounting hole, wrapping the clip behind the ears, then fighting with the clip to stretch it into the other hole.
Should be easy for you to correct.
