the brake was mushy the first day right after new rotors & pads were installed, especially after rather) aggressive bed-in procedures (may be too aggressive).
On the next day, after re-checking the brakes & found no "suspects", then I bleed the brake. The car stops fine during the test drive .. not mushy, no fading.
From past experience (on other cars), I would replace the rotors/pads & bleed the brakes on the SAME day ... they all felt MUCH BETTER braking performance as they were all due for a brake job anyway ...
So would bleeding alone would improve braking performance? I would say yes, it should be, but I'm uncertain to what degree as I've never bleed the brakes alone without replacing rotos & pads.
