If you like the styling and overall package of the current car then go for it if you are getting a good price.
People may complain about GMs influence on saab, the fact remains that quality is much better today (as it should be) and it is certainly more than class competetive with other european performance sedans. People also complain about dilution of the saab brand by GM, and thats certainly an issue, but that applies to things like the 9-2 or 9-7 which are just reskinned examples of other manufacturers wares, the 9-5 is a 'true' saab, designed and built only in sweden with a bespoke turbo engine.
The only downside of the 9-5 is its a bit long in the tooth, so while competive, it isnt cutting edge in anything, then again its a very good value and the flipside is that the design is proven with all the kinks worked out (DIC (I hope), SID, HVAC) or known (oil sludge - change oil every 5k/6months religiously)
Something is drawing you to saab, I suspect its the styling&indivduality, dont let reliability/not what they used to be concerns put you off, those are bogus.
