2 years ago I inherited a Camry station wagon from my father, who happens to be a devoted CR reader-subscriber. He always submits the reliablity survey CR uses to get its data.
Dad owned the car since new and he told me many times over the years, and again when I got the car from him, that it "never had a problem," and it "never needed any repairs," and so on. Well, I have all his maintenace records (since 1993) and in there I found these parts had failed and been replaced: the starter, a window regulator, an axel, and a cv joint. This makes me wonder about how accurately he filled out those reliability surveys and futher, how accurately the rest of the CR-public does it.
