Contrary to what Mike Lynch stated, not all DICs fail all at once. Mine was throwing check engine lights just before Xmas when I was on my way to see relatives. Had it checked out before my return and got the recall done early. No more CELs.
Hard starting when cold is not something I'm going to try to diagnose. If it starts cold but won't start warm, that is very likely a Crank Shaft Position sensor (CPS). As to getting the DIC changed, that won't be a problem even if the DIC is not causing your starting issues. Note too that new software comes with the new DIC and that is what takes the time. It takes at least 20 minutes for my PPC (Portable Program Carrier) to download my upgrade software. I suspect a Tech II isn't much faster.
