Cost of a new sensor from my Dealer was $45. My long rambling posting from March 9 or 10 has suggestions for making this a quick job. It took me 90 minutes to replace the sensor, but the first hour was pretty much wasted. Plan on 30 minutes to do the job from the top side. Others have said it is quicker and easier from below.
From postings by Anders it appears that CPS failure does not cause any check engine codes, whereas impending DIC/IDM failure (with the newer engine software) will throw codes before total failure.
