I have both - 2000 9-5 wagon lpt 4cyl and 4 dr Accord EX.
Saab - When it runs - excellent, confidence inspiring driver. When it suffers from one of its all too frequent meltdowns (head gasket, ABS, multiple turbos, alarm, DIC, annoying leaks) it's a pain in the ass. For reasons I can't explain, I can't quit her, though - even after plotting to dump her numerous times over the past several years.
Honda - Doesn't have the character or athletic prowess of the Saab, but is a surprisingly responsive driver AND is dependable as the day is long. Excellent shop manual available (although rarely needed)and relatively easy to service. Sometimes it irritates me when posters unfairly malign the Honda as an "appliance" - it may not handle like a 9-5, but it's leagues above most conventional sedans.
As for the safety of the Saab - it may have a bombproof safety cage, but I didn't feel too safe when my DI cassette went south on the incline of the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge and the car stopped dead in its tracks. Or when the battery died without warning at 2am upon leaving an event in downtown LA. Hondas don't do things like that.
So, I guess the decision depends on your tolerance for the potential "adventure" that sometimes accompanies owning a spirited European sport sedan. What's worked for me is to own both.
