HOLY CRAP!! Drove a '03 9-5 linear first and then an '02 9-5 Aero. Both auto boxes. I was amazed at the linear and how much gust it had. Also at the refined nature of the car. Very solid, extremely comfortable, quiet, rode amazingly well. Then I drove the Aero. At first, I thought it wasn't that much more. Then I got to an open section of road. LOVED IT!!

I'm sold. The dealer I was talking to was a well known pre-ownded saab/volvo/audi dealer in the area. Very knowledgeable if not a little protective about it. One issue we were discussing was sludge. He buys their vehicles directly from saab off-lease. When he gets them in he pulls the pan and checks for sludge. If it has any signs, it goes back to saab. Prices are high. The Aero with 40k on the clock was $22k. Again, it was an '02. I checked with a dealer friend who will go to the auction for me. He got my landrover disco II for 10k less than what he would've put on the lot. He is going to go again. However, won't have the option of checking for sludge. Dealer yesterday say's no way to fix if has sludge. Can flush, but only temporary fix, or prolonging the ineviteable. I was thinking of getting the car in, before delivery having my friend pull the pan, look for sludge, flush, change oil and filter to correct filter and Mobil 1 synthetic before I go anywhere.

What else could I do if I see signs of sludge? I may try for a very low mileage car. Willing to spend more for low mileage. My dealer friend has flat fee of a few hundred over what the car costs at auction. So although 22 doesn't really seem too bad for what you get, I can still save thousands. I've seen low mileage '02-'03 Aero's go for as low as 13k. Timing is everything at a dealer auction.

What other issues are there with the 9-5 besides sludge? Are the linear's any more durable and reliable than the aero's? Radio's, suspension, A/C, doors, turbo's, etc.

All help is greatly appreciated.
