Jake I'm in the same boat as you; I don't malign Accords as I had one and it was the best car I've ever had. Now have 2 SUVs and my Isuzu Trooper is dying slowly and has to go; looking at leasing a 9-3, or buy an '05 loaded leftover Aero that dealer will probably take $31K for, or may just buy the loaded Accord V-6 EX or possibly a TSX with gas prices the way they are going. Throw some good shocks/springs on the Accord and it is unbeatable for performance/reliability/resale value, plus it takes regular fuel; however for those same reasons everyone and their mother has one. My heart says European, head says Japanese.
I may lease the 9-3 for 27 months; that's when Alfa Romeo comes back into the States...
Based on my observations, I think the later model 9-3/9-5s are much more reliable than the earlier ones
