I'd invest in some used 16" rims (NG900/9-3/9-5 and perhaps even 9-3SS wheels work) and snow tires for the Aero. You won't feel very secure with the 17s, though.
If you have to do the all-season route, I had good luck with the Continental Extreme Contacts in snow up to 6". I've heard of good experiences with the Nokian WRs, although they're quite spendy per tire.
With snows, the 9-5's a regular sled-doggie sort of car. In the really deep stuff you might have front spoiler issues, but I've also found that the sport suspension feels great on icy/snowy surfaces--I've been able to go quickly and feel secure in the Aero in bad conditions.
