If you want practical, you should be looking at a Japanese car - you'll get a decent ride albeit somewhat utilitarian - put more simply, it will get you from point A to point B, regularly and without fuss - but japanese vehicles are entirely devoid of character, even their flagship Lexus.
On the other hand, most performance European cars have character, a certain edgy spirit, which like spirited women, are definitely higher maintenance, and the Saab is in this category.
I have a 02 Linear sportwagon, purchased used but not abused, with CPO (Certified Pre Owned - extended factory warranty) - it is a pleasure to drive, reasonably economical for an auto - ave 29mpg fast highway - quick enough for me - and reasonably sure footed in the snow and a snow storm.
Used late model Saabs with CPO are a bargain. Go drive one, see for yourself.
