I was very surprised at the dinky little thing they call a lug wrench that comes with the car. Am going either buy something that's actually useful or dedicate a 1/2" drive socket and bar to the task.
As for easing removal, always retorque the bolts after a shop has put them on. That way you (a) know it's correct and (b) are not going to have problems getting the bolts off some dark night in the rain. Putting a dab of anti-sieze on the bolts can also be helpful.
Second is something I discovered when putting the new snows and steelies on the car over Turkey Day weekend. The rear hubs have a flange that builds up a fair bit of corrosion that can prevent the alloy wheel from coming off. I put the car back on the ground and with the bolts loosened about 2 turns or so each gently rocked the car sideways. This broke the wheel loose from the flange immediately and it was easy to do the rest of the job.
I wire brushed the flange and put a skim of wheel bearing grease on it because I was out of anti-sieze. We'll see how it worked come spring when I go back to alloys. I've always put a little anti-sieze or even WD40 on the mounting face of the hub or wheel of my other cars but never had the flange be an issue. But this is my 1st time on a 9-5.
