I purchased my 9-5 linear last Oct with 51,000 on the clock. As of today after cramming and cutting the hell out of my hands changing out the thermostat I have 71,000. I know that is alot of miles in 6 months, but I'm not one to let a car sit. So far I have had to do the following:
New autobox- $2,850.00
Heater bypass valve- $80 (DIY)
Plugs- $5.00 (DIY)
Rims- $400.00
Tires- $500.00
Thermostat- $10.00 (DIY)
Temp sensor- $22.00 (DIY)
Rotors- $100.00 (DIY)
Pads- $100.00 (DIY)
Fuel Filter- $20.00 (DIY)
Coolant Flush- $30.00 (DIY)
Tranny Flush- $75.00 (DIY)
I still need to do these things:
New serp belt- $40.00
New pulleys- est. $200.00
New SID- $100.00
Drivers ball joint?- $150.00
I think there are a few other things I didn't list, but I try to forgive and forget because I still love the damn car. But I didn't think that I would have all of these problems out of a car that was never touched outside of a dealer and had all recalls and problems taken car of at the dealer. I think it is a joke also to have to either replace a valve body or get a new tranny just because a damn solenoid goes out. The valve body alone from the dealer lists for $1,950, and sells daily for 1,700. I have replaces solenoids on other vechiles and it never cost me over $300.00 bucks including labor. I had to replace brand new Saab pads because they blew apart on me during some spirited driving which then killed my rotors. I had 2 rims bend in the first week of owning the car going over a speed bump.
I also think that i'm going to be in for another shock soon too. When I first start the car and it goes to idle I can hear something from the right side of the engine that sounds like a bird chirping a few times. From what I have read that is a sign that the timing chain has stretched, making it hit the cover upon start up. I guess that i'm going to stop whining now I just hope that the rest of my ownership experience isn't going to be as painful as it has been so far.
