Nobody has mentioned it but I'm assuming everyone knows that the DI is a recall item. Mine burned out at 67k on my 2001 Aero: towing and replacement was $600 but SAAB reimbursed me. I'm on my 3rd 9-5 (03 aero). My first was a 99 9-5 and that had trouble with DI, SID, throttle body, fuel pump, oil pump, slow AC leak. After my mechanic said the turbo would go soon (blue smoke) I sold it. The buyer took it to another mechanic who said the smoke was from the PCV and some sort of bypass used to keep brake fluid warm in northern climes? Buyer thrilled with the car (133K). My "new" 03 Aero is a slightly better in every way than my last two. At 48K had to replace SID (why can SAAB get this right after 4 years?) and shift seal. My mechanic thinks the throttle body is suspect but dealer said it was fine and refused to replace it. When I set out to buy another car I wanted an Acura TL or Infiniti G35 but either of those cars as an under warranty 2003 would have been at least 20K. My Aero was only 14,900. I figure the extra 5k will cover any issue and maybe even a stage 3 upgrade in the future. A final consideration, I only buy manuals...the clutch seems to go for ever and is way cheaper to replace that an automatic. Personally I don't trust any makers old trannys, not even a Toyota. So ditch the 2000 and find a 2003 or later 9-5 Aero manual.
