I understand where you're coming from, as the brand in the past has been unique in styling, economic yet powerful, versatile for load carrying, and all around a great value. I have owned a '95 9000CSE, '01 9-5 Aero sedan, and currently a '03 9-5 Aero sedan. I've always like SAABs because of their uniqueness, especially south of the Mason-Dixon line. Occasionally I have used it to haul enormous (yet light) packages, and the power in the Aero is addictive.
That being said, the market is changing a bit. I am a 30-something w/ no kids to haul around, and I rarely have more than two persons in the car at once, except for the occasional office lunch trip, in which they all want me to drive; and I work at Volvo! I have done many upgrades to my latest SAAB, including lower suspension, performance dampers, performance dump valve, blah blah blah. There is a HUGE SAAB tuning community in Europe. I visit a couple other SAAB boards that are much more performance-oriented than saabnet, which is more of a troubleshooting BB. In my fantasy SAAB world, the company would put out a 9-5 version that could actually compete with an Audi S, BMW M car or Mercedes AMG. Will this ever happen? Doubtful, as the German cars I mentioned are in a different class altogether. Still, it would be nice for SAAB to step it up enough that you don't get smoked by any Suburu STI or Acura TL type-S nowadays. They are definitely behind the times, whereas they used to be ahead of the trend. All we can do is be hopeful at this point I guess, and keep enjoying the SAABs we love. Cheers.
