I too am looking and towing a trailer is something any new wagon will need to do. It also must have approximately the same interior space as our 9-5 wagon which, for us, translates to about 190+- inches overall length. After attending a couple of auto shows and visiting a number of dealers ( and looking for trailer towing abibility {and throwing price to the wind}), I came up with The following: BMW 530xi Wagon-all you could ask for in a sportwagon but you can't tow a trailer; Audi A6: the owner's manual devotes a number of pages to trailer towing but at one of the two dealers I visited, the sales manager suggested that there might be some warranty issues if I tow a trailer. Ditto the Mercedes E350 ( "buy one of the MLs if you need to tow"). The Passat was ok, but just. Lots of features available and the 3.6 was zippy, but the ride left something to be desired. And, though you can tow with the FWD, I was told you can't fit a hitch on a Passat w/ 4Motion. Outbacks do a great job of towing but they lack a number of features that we've learned to love on our 9-5 and, to get the pep of our Saab, we would need to go with the 2.5XT and its
attendnant lower gas mileage. So it seems that we'll need to learn to live with an '07 9-5 or wait for the new Volvo V70 shown at the Geneva Auto Show this week (3,000 lb.+ towing capacity, straight six, and a bunch of available features) and see what it's all about.
