The Passat is a nice car Posted by AdamB [Email] (#3) [Profile/Gallery] (more from AdamB) on Sun, 18 Mar 2007 15:54:33 In Reply to: 9-5 vs Passat Wagon, Jerry, Sat, 17 Mar 2007 17:44:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
But it's not in the same class as a 9-5. It's comparable to the 9-3.
Do you need AWD? IE do you plan to do a lot of track racing (the only place you'll benefit from AWD in dry or wet condition) or do you have snow for large parts of the year (don't forget, you still need winter tires on an AWD because it doesn't brake or steer better than a FWD, quite the contrary).
As for the 280HP V6, I'd bet the 9-5 Aero is still faster in the real world, that is at overtaking. The top speed is also considerably higher on the Aero because of the lame limiter in the Passat. The Aero has the same max torque, but even lower down in the revs and across a wider RPM range. The Passat is also considerably less fuel efficient. 18MPG/26MPG vs. 20MPG/30MPG. As for price, well I doubt you'll get much lower than sticker on the Passat, whereas a 9-5 Aero can be had for thousands less than sticker (and less than the Passat).
