Mobil 1 5W/40 is my choice..... I just did an oil change this afternoon in my driveway and poured in a 4 quart jug of Mobil 1's 5W/40 "Turbo Diesel Truck & SUV" oil that I got at Wal-Mart for ~$22.
This weight of oil carries the American Petroleum Institute's SL rating rather than the newer SM rating, meaning it contains more anti-wear additives. One instance where the old rating may be superior to the new, the disadvantage is these anti-wear additives can damage your catalytic converter if the engine consumes too much oil.
I initially used 10W/30 as per the owner's manual when my car was new, then switched to European Formula 0W/40 and noticed increased oil consumption (possibly caused by the PCV system saga and not oil weight), then switched again to 5W/40. Even after all the miles my car has traveled, the engine only burns/uses 1/2 quart of oil in 5,000 miles.
