every so often the wife and I will try to be sensible and either a) buy our car when the lease is up or b) buy a used something. But when you sit down with a calculator, you realize that in order to move metal, carmakers throw quite a bit of money at new car sales. Those are the sales figures that drive the industry (and bonuses and promotions, apparently). And if you're like me and only shop the subvented leases, well those are almost impossible to beat. Add in free maintenance, full warranty, and new car smell always seems to end up winning. Even CPO often falls short of buying/leasing new, unless you plan to keep a car until the doors rust off in which case buying makes sense. But what fun is that? :)
