a real OEM key blank. I bet the person just yanked the old metal part out of the plastic housing and glued in another metal blank into it.
The Saab all-in-one key has the electronic part with the cover and buttons as the center part and then the metal key blank with the rest of the key housing as the other piece. The Saab key blank with the plastic housing is real solid and no need for any type of reinforcement and it is sold as ONE piece from Saab, i.e. the metal key part with a big hole in the middle to house the electronics, buttons, and back cover.
My bet is that it's unlikely to have any embedded chip within the metal part or the plastic surround. The only way to know whether you did any damage is to see if you can program your all-in-one key to the car.
