Hi guys, I'm the person who posted the discharge curves for the SE batteries. No, you don't want to go that route - unless you like redoing it every 6 months or so. But I did try something today that I believe nobody tried before...
OK, last weekend I replaced my siren batteries with some Panasonic ones. They lasted for about 5 days before the first STA returned. I decided to give up and go with a route of external battery pack with some Energizer Lithiums. I removed the batteries, soldered some wires, replaced the siren in it's original location and put the battery pack under the hood. Everything works great.
Now, check this out: the battery pack (4AA, closed) I got from RShack has an on/off switch. When I swicth it to off (circuit is open, ie like you just removed the batteries from the siren, left it without any batteries and put it back in)... all is fine. The alarm works normally, the SID says CHECK OK, and all is pretty, at least for the last 6 hours. I will keep it OFF for a while now to see if STA will show up, but for now it seems like the siren doesn't need batteries at all. We've been looking for so long, and the solution could have been right under our noses. Just remove the f****g batteries and put it back in - alarm works, no STA, and you don't lose anything (well, except the backup function in case someone stealing your 6-7 year old saab disconnects the main battery).
I'll report on long term situation, but could it be that simple? Just remove batteries and don't put anything back?
